Treatment Plan
The patient is first screened by Dr. Randy Gregg at the Edmonton Sport Institute to ensure they are appropriate candidates for disc decompression therapy. If approved, the patients undergo twenty sessions of decompression, each lasting approximately one hour. The patient is on the SpineMED machine for about 25 minutes, followed by a treatment using an interferential machine for an additional twenty minutes in order to decrease any muscle spasm or pain. The treatments are usually non-painful and most patients are very comfortable during the treatments. It is recommended that during the treatment sessions and for three weeks following their completion, the patient remains relatively sedentary with a minimal amount of bending or lifting. The patient should not be working in any physical capacity during this time. At three weeks post treatment, the patient is reassessed by Dr. Gregg at which time the patient is encouraged to begin a daily core strength and back flexibility program.
